The paper proves that the main objective of epistemo-logical function of geoecology in education lies in the use of the latest educational technologies and methods of training and education for ensuring formation in individual and society’s public consciousness a moral and noosphere imperative of transition to a sustainable development. According to authors, transition to a sustainable development as new stage of relationship of society and nature can’t be carried out without science and education. The educational system has to provide the necessary change of mentality of society which most fully would consider the main ideas of a sustainable development and would assist their realization in practical activities of a modern civilization. The education system directly and most effectively has to work for the future because it defines personal qualities of each person, his knowledge and ability, behavioural priorities, and, eventually – the economic, spiritual and material capacity of society and a civilization in general. Developing this idea, authors note that in close historical prospect the mankind has no more reliable support for a survival, than an education system. It is claimed that the geoecology has opportunity to make the significant contribution to solutions of the majority of global problems, and also to development of the theory and practice of a sustainable development as paradigms of a survival of a modern civilization. Authors reveal the epistemo-logical, noosphere and world outlook functions of geoecology for overcoming a stereotype of anthropocentric approach and formation of noosphere mentality of society .
