The article describes distinctive features of national research universities that provide effective integration of educational and scientific activities. The main results of the integration are formation of unique academic, theoretical and practical competencies of bachelors, master degree students, undergraduate students and university staff. A solution to the problem requires integration of three interrelated groups of factors: concentration of experience, knowledge, talents; significant financial resources allowing to conduct cutting-edge research and implement educational function effectively; effective management system that unlocks scientific, innovative and creative potential of university staff. The formed competence enables to conduct fundamental and applied research up to world standards, generate new knowledge and its transformation into technology and competitive knowledge-intensive products. It makes it possible to expand a range of educational services, develop and implement new educational standards and programmes, integrate into the world educational and scientific field. The authors develop a scientific competence model for students of research universities based on integration of theoretical and experimental research, principles of interdisciplinary, systemacity, sequence. The model is also based on methods of system and categorical analysis as well as methods of induction and deduction, classification and individualisation. A key aspect of the model is unique environment that allows to develop scientific competence of students It is supported by advanced equipment of material and technical base of scientific research (scientific laboratories, industrial parks, business incubators, small innovative enterprises, digital educational milieu, a system of academic mobility), opportunities for a national research university to establish its own educational standards based on integrating results of research activities in educational process. Implementing the model allows to generate new qualitative competencies of graduates and favour their comp etitive recovery in the global educational field.
