Abstract
Introduction. Studying the curriculum as a tool for strategic planning in education is becoming crucial due to increasing demands on the quality of the educational process at various stages of continuous education. However, strategic planning tools remain understudied in both foreign and domestic research. This issue is particularly important in the context of the professional and pedagogical training of instructors at the Industrial Enterprise Training Center. The objective of this study is to theoretically substantiate a curriculum model for the continuing professional and pedagogical education of engineering instructors at the Industrial Enterprise Training Center.
Materials and Methods. Methodologically, the study is based on the principles of the theory and technology of professional education and key concepts of andragogy in relation to the personal orientation of adult education. The study consisted of theoretical, experimental, and final stages, conducted at the Konoplev Specialist Training Center of KBP Joint Stock Company, with the participation of 50 engineering instructors. The theoretical analysis allowed for a critical assessment of the current state of pedagogical science in the subject matter, identifying and substantiating a curriculum model as a tool for strategic planning in education. Empirical methods guided the pilot study of the properties of pedagogical reality and the basis for adjusting the developed model. The study was conducted in three stages: a theoretical substantiation of the curriculum model; a pilot study of the results of implementing the model in continuing professional education; and a final stage – conclusions and generalizations.
Results. The role of the curriculum as a strategic planning tool was determined, and its specific features were identified, reflecting the phenomenological characteristics of the Enterprise Training Center as a special type of educational organization in the continuing professional education system. A structural and substantive model of the curriculum for the professional and pedagogical training of engineering teachers is presented, approaches to its implementation at the theoretical and technological level are substantiated, and a criteria framework for assessing the educational outcomes is developed.
Conclusion. The results of the study are applicable to the design of curricula for the training of personnel of any profile in the continuing professional education system. Future plans include developing approaches to developing pedagogical concepts in engineering instructors as the basis for professional and pedagogical thinking, as well as creating cognitive maps (“navigators”) for students’ independent work.
