THE ROLE OF INFORMATION DESIGN TECHNOLOGY IN THE REFORM OF CIVIL ENGINEERING EDUCATION

А. М. Astashov, L. M. Oshkina
(Ogarev Mordovia State University, Saransk, Russia)

The article discusses the need for a new approach to designing (informational modeling of buildings) in the civil engineering professions. The issue of transition to information technologies is handled at the state level, and therefore is relevant today. The essence of the new approach to design is in creation of an information model of a building or structure and in extraction of various design engineering documentation from the model. The introduction of new technologies may only be carried out by specialists, owning such technologies. Therefore, training should stay ahead of the needs of industry and manufacturing. Reformation of the teaching process in order to ensure the conditions for the appearance of professionals able to work successfully in today’s environment is carried out through the introduction of new curricula in disciplines or new sections to existing courses focused on the application of information technology. This approach makes it necessary to change the structure of civil engineering education. As one of the forms is proposed, for example, the end-to-end design system based on the software. This article discusses the common points of the end-to-end design for construction-engineering departments, as well as collective work on the project. The authors propose that each training course (architecture, construction, engineering, landscape, cost sheets, etc.) is studied using a specialized module of used software or a specialized software complex and satisfy the specifics of a particular discipline. The article gives examples of introduction of information technologies in educational process. The most notable work in this area is carried out in NGASU. The authors give the examples of projects made by students of this University with BIM technologies. The article discusses various software products that support information modeling of building, indicates that the selection of the software to use in educational process is a difficult and demanding challenge for universities..

Keywords: information technologies; virtual building concept; information modeling; BIM; learning processes; software.
